San Diego State vs. Wyoming: Cowboys pull off huge upset at home

The Wyoming Cowboys ended the No. 5 San Diego State Aztecs' 20-game winning streak and held off a late surge in a big upset, 68-62, on Tuesday night.

San Diego State was down 16 with 8:10 left to play in the second half, and was able to battle back within five with one minute left. Much of the offensive output came from Xavier Thames, who finally came alive in the second half. It would be too little too late from Thames and the rest of San Diego State, who lost their first conference game.

The Aztecs have one of the better defenses in the nation, normally holding opponents to 39 percent shooting. Wyoming shot 57.9 percent from the floor, led by Riley Grabau's 17 points.

Thames, San Diego State's leading scorer, finished with 13 points, but much of that came from the free throw line. He was 3-of-16 from the floor and didn't make his first field goal until 11:15 to go in the second half. The Aztecs struggled from the floor, hitting 39 percent from the floor and missing many of their second chance points. San Diego State finished with 21 offensive rebounds and 17 defensive rebounds.
